Red Faction Guerilla First video media

Posted by Alex Mejia on June 24th, 2008

Here is some of the first Red Faction Guerilla Media that just recently aired on IGN.

I was the Virtual Director of Photography on these shots as well as the Virtual Camera operator for the in-game shots. This video features no pre-rendered cutscenes.

Also, I had to play Manual Vsync, having to remove the visual tearing on some video files manually in Photoshop.

New employment at Volition-Inc

Posted by Alex Mejia on May 19th, 2008

I had an interesting job offer from a company that makes video games for current generation consoles (360, PS3), called Volition-Inc. They were the gaming company Responsible for the Classic Descent Series, and for the recent hits Red Faction, and Saints Row.

I found this company to be a good match for my video editing/compression skills, as well as my history with video gaming. I had always been an avid PC gamer from the start, and Working at Volition has been a nice breath of fresh air from local advertising gigs.

Since most of what I work on falls under my NDA I will be unable to report on anything in progress. However I will be able to show finished, public media for the two upcomming games, Saints Row 2, and Red Faction Guerrilla.

Grafitti art is known as ‘tagging’ by those who are involved. The only legal tagging wall in the Midwest is in Muncie, Indiana. People come from all over the tri-state area to show their artistic skills here. In this story we follow a local’s tagging expierence.

How to encode h.264 files for FREE with MeGUI

Posted by Alex Mejia on March 7th, 2007

In this video tutorial I will show you how to turn your large source video files into streamable or archive h.264 copies in the universally playable .mp4 format, and the best thing about it is that it won’t cost you a dime, and will look better than Quicktime, and Windows Media.

Click this button to launch the Video tutorial.

This tutorial assumes that you have MeGUI already installed, and that you have the video file in either mpeg, or AVI format.

Muncie Dragway on Current.TV

Posted by Alex Mejia on February 21st, 2007

One of the editors at Current.TV who saw Unnecessary Evil sent me an e-mail asking for more material. I showed him my website and he was most interested in Muncie Dragway. Therefore I have uploaded this Emmy Nominated piece to Current.TV’s website to possibly air on National TV.

Abstract: Shanon Poyser, a semi-pro racer talks about what it’s like to be female and race with the big boys in her class.

Backup woes. DVD-+rs suck.

Posted by Alex Mejia on January 17th, 2007

I’ve been in contact with Current TV about airing Unnecessary Evil, and I was able to get some of the producers to look at the other content on my site. They were interested but needed clean copies without music (so that they could add their own for licensing reasons).

So I had to break out the backups for some of these files. When some of these were created I was working with a max of 300gb, so almost after any project it was backed up straight to DVD+Rs (files were Rared up and spanned across multiple files, files burned with rar recovery records.)

Well I know that DVD+Rs aren’t dependable mediums for long term backups, but I had no idea that they would only last about 18 months before degrading to an unreadable state.
